Northern Mam, Q’anjo’bal, Yucatec Maya, Popti’, Coatecas Altas Zapotec, Central Puebla Nahuatl, Alacatlatzala Mixtec.
These are just seven of the 49 Indigenous languages from Mesoamerica—the southern half of Mexico and northern half of Central America—that are spoken today in Oregon. Indigenous Mesoamerican peoples contribute to the economy and social fabric of Oregon. Their own languages and knowledge systems deserve recognition.
Sharing Indigenous Mesoamerican Culture and History Found in Oregon
Invisible No More! features open-access digital tools such as a map, database, and oral histories to serve both Oregon’s Mesoamerican communities and the human services, non-profits, and state agencies that support them. We seek to highlight the importance of the diverse languages and cultures of Indigenous Mesoamerican peoples in Oregon, and in doing so, contribute to cultural, linguistic, and social justice.
